The 9th European Congress of Mathematics (9ECM), the quadrennial congress of the European Mathematical Society, took place between 15 and 19 July in Seville, Spain. The European Mathematical Society (EMS) is an academic society for mathematicians from all over Europe. It promotes the development of all aspects of mathematics in Europe, in particular mathematical research, the relations of mathematics with society, relations with European institutions and mathematical education. The European Congress of Mathematics (ECM) is organised by EMS every four years and is the second largest mathematics event in the world.

Eugénio Rocha from the University of Aveiro took part in session CS-17: 08. History of Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Popularisation of Mathematics (II) + 09. Logic and Mathematical Aspects of Computer Science, where he gave the oral presentation "About a general fuzzy class of factor graphs and belief propagation algorithms." with the authors E.Rocha, J. Martins.

Engénio Rocha and Joana Martins, both from the University of Aveiro, were there to present, respectively, a "Mathematical model of belief propagation with uncertainty" and a "Mathematical model for measuring data variability, useful in process data associated with heat pumps".
